'And The World Says' - 30th July 2022
And the world says… is an interactive event developed by Jupiter Artland’s Orbit Youth Council, held on Saturday the 30th of July, 2-4pm. Jupiter Artland’s ORBIT Youth Council is a creative group of young people drawn from all over Scotland. As a collective voice the Council works in partnership with the Jupiter Artland team and artists to initiate and shape live community art projects. The program seeks to put young people at the helm of decision making and amplify the voice of Scotland’s youth.
And the world says… focuses on the act of listening, investigating the unknown connections between two strangers through the act of storytelling. This is your chance to learn about others and let your voice be heard. Travel around our stations, making, sharing and creating with others.

Orbit Youth Council meet for the first time:
Our first meet up was online due to the Covid-19 pandemic, where we worked in breakout rooms for 3 days and got to know each other, while combining our ideas for a potential exhibition.
We were guided by very talented Jupiter learning staff and were presented with different inspiring artists talks such as Becky Warnock’s fantastic talk on Helen Cammock! Becky - who is an artist and assistant to Helen - was kind enough to introduce us to Helen’s work and the concept of a socially engaged practice.
Orbit Youth Council second meet:
For our second meet up we started developing our ideas for our exhibition, as we met in person this time. We worked on using our voice and learned how important it is to express our opinions in a workshop with Gemma Cairney. We worked in group projects brainstorming for the week and finally came up with a draft idea for our exhibition.

Orbit Youth Council third meet:
The council met again, but this time in London, where we explored galleries and continued to broaden our skills and knowledge completing workshops to help better our practice for during our exhibition.

Orbit Youth Council Fourth meet:
For our last meet before our exhibition we worked in the open workshops in Edinburgh and on the Jupiter Artland campus to further out photography, audio, printmaking, and stitch skills and iron out the final touches for the exhibition.

Our interactive event explored the possibilities of photography, printmaking, sewing and sound, with the audience’s stories at the core. We invited the public to come along with a simple story or a memory to be shared with a stranger. We want to collect your stories and to make them a part of something bigger.
