Textiles + Fabric
During this project I was experimenting with stitch and textiles, while also looking at rape within childhood. The phrases sewn into the photographs within my Arte Povera project was a catalyst to keep using text and textiles within my work. I continued to look at consent and started sewing into underwear. Showing that being able to see someone in their underwear is a privilege and that if you're seeing them, have you asked consent to be seeing them? Or was it forced?
I came across a diary entry that I had written while living in an abusive household, I took this and changed it into a piece of spoken word and recorded myself speaking it in a hushed whispering tone, like I was hiding. I then took the words and sewed them onto a pair of pyjama bottoms in black thread, i used red on the words that stood out to me and enlarged them making some of the words cover the black ones.
