Exhibitions:

‘And The World Says…’

2021-2022 at Jupiter Art Land in Edinburgh. Opening 30th June 2022.

I worked there during the Jupiter Rising Music Festival, and was on their Orbit Youth Council, through which I had my first exhibition. I worked with an amazing collective of young people to create an immersive multimedia art event which was located in the centre of the Charles Jencks ‘Cells of Life’. This event invited the public to interact through different types of media: at each station there was photography, audio, print making, and stitch. The event was based around the theme of memory and created a space where people could share memories and connect with strangers through art.

‘16-Days-Of-Action’

25th November 2022 at West Lothian College.

This exhibition was set up by 5 artists. I exhibited a large outdoor womb installation, with audio, heat, and lights, that allowed the audience to “crawl back into the womb” - literally. This work is a collaboration piece and was displayed to the public in West Lothian raising awareness for gender-based violence. I spent a lot of time gathering materials, experimenting, and setting up the installation and discovered an interest in installation artworks, specifically ones that focus on multiple sensory aspects at once.

‘Uncensored’

5th – 9th June 2023 at West Lothian College.

This was an end of year exhibition set up by the class to show case our work that we created throughout our time studying an HNC in Portfolio Production.

Public works/Interventions:

  • Outdoor shower installation - 2023

  • Artivive on tampon box – 2022

  • Womb installation – 2022

  • ‘And The World Says…’ 2022

Artist experiences out with Education:

  • Orbit Youth Council at Jupiter Art Land, Edinburgh.

  • Giraffe About Town, Edinburgh.

  • Schuh Design Competition.

Artists Statement – Teigan Ross

I am currently studying an HNC in Contemporary Art Practice at West Lothian College. This involves contextual studies, 2D and 3D practice, exhibition studies, digital artform, and portfolio production. Throughout our two-week projects we are given a prompt, for example “duration” or “text-based art” and we individually research, develop, and finalise new types of contemporary art each week using our own themes. I am really enjoying working on installations, performance art, and text-based artworks. These are techniques that I thrive learning with and skills that I am continuing to develop. The main themes that my work surrounds are catharsis, feminism, and empowerment. I talk about my own experiences within my work, as art to me, is a form of sublimation. Having experienced trauma, art pulls me out from a dark place and provides me with ways of expressing, and I want to help others do the same. If just one person benefits from my artistic expression, I will be more than satisfied. That’s why I know art school is my future.

Throughout 2021-2022 I volunteered at Jupiter Art Land, I worked there during the Jupiter Rising Music Festival, and was on their Orbit Youth Council, through which I had my first exhibition. Being part of Jupiter opened up my perspective of art, and after meeting artists and visiting their work I started to explore different forms of media within my own practice.

In November 2022, I took part in an exhibition for 16-Days-Of-Action. This exhibition was set up by 5 artists and took time to perfect. We are learning from this and are developing our skills in preparation for future exhibitions. This is something I am currently developing further into pieces surrounding sensory deprivation.

These are only a few points that have shaped my knowledge of art and make me determined to continue developing my practice further. Art school will allow me to expand on current themes and discover new ones that I find enticing, while broadening my thoughts and methods of practice further, and allowing for new and exhilarating opportunities. It will also provide me with ways of expression and contacts with likeminded individuals, loads of resources, studio space, and guidance from technicians and lecturers, all of which gives me a thrill when thinking about my future.
